"Ain't No Back To A Merry-Go-Round" tells the forgotten true story of events at the Glen Echo Amusement Park in white metropolitan Washington where thousands of white children enjoyed the rides and the pool each summer, while Black children living nearby could only gaze longingly at this "idyllic" playground from the street. Then, in June of 1960, three events occurred which ignited a Civil Rights firestorm: a group of Howard University students showed up and sat on the merry-go-round; White middle aged and mostly Jewish neighbors joined the protest; and the Nazi Party showed up. This inspiring story honors the sacrifices and personal awakenings of a group of everyday people who stood up for social justice in the early years of the Civil Rights.
