Drawing from Maimonides’ Guide for the Perplexed, David will discuss Maimonides’ radical theory about prophecy and whether Maimonides sees prophecy as a supernatural phenomenon. As we prepare for Rosh Hashana, David will share a Maimonidean view of the binding of Isaac.
David received a B.A. from Columbia College and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. He practiced law for 35 years at Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz, where he was a litigation partner. He then retired from the active practice of law to start a second career as an investment adviser. He founded Gruenstein Investments LLC and its associated fund, Gruenstein Partners LP, which aim to invest in companies with long runways for exceptional growth. He received his CFA designation in 2021.
As a lifelong learner, David has become a devotee of Maimonides and his Guide for the Perplexed. In the last few years, he has been studying Maimonides and the Guide on a regular basis. David is particularly focused on applying Maimonidean teachings to improve our own analysis of complex contemporary issues, whether secular or religious.”
