Life-Long Learning

Study is central to our lives as Jews. We strive to be a kehillah kedoshah — a sacred congregation dedicated to the highest ideals of Judaism.

Through our ancient texts, and with some creativity, we encourage people of all ages to explore the simplest to the deepest questions of human existence. From learning basic Hebrew to debating Tanakh at Torah Study, join us for respectful, meaningful, and engaging study and conversations that help us to deepen our knowledge, strengthen our connection to Judaism, and appreciate our differences.

Talmud torah k'neged kulam: study of Torah is equal to all of the mitzvot (commandments) put together.

A regular practice of study deepens our appreciation for all aspects of Jewish life. Our adult education classes range from the practical (Hebrew Language and Tradition classes) to the deeply personal and spiritual (art, yoga, Mussar, and Torah Study). All are welcome to join these uplifting and contemplative programs.

Some of our current classes:

Mussar

Our Mussar Study/Discussion group is an ongoing program designed to promote spiritual growth through learning, self-reflection and practice.

We meet virtually bi-weekly on Mondays at 7:00pm during the Spring, Summer and Fall months, and require attendance based commitment to each series.

The objectives of this program are :

  • To equip you with the tools of Jewish spiritual practice – the centuries-old Mussar teachings and practices that purify and elevate the traits of the soul

  • To create a local Mussar based spiritual group in which participants can share and explore together

  • To create an open informal discussion of Mussar-based teachings.

There are several readings provided for each meeting and for our text we have been using “Everyday Holiness” by Alan Morinis.

Additional texts may be suggested as we evolve in our study.

Torah Study Using The Torah: A Women's Commentary

A female congregant leads Torah Study at Temple Adas Israel on the first Shabbat of each month. Focusing on the role(s) of women in the weekly parashah, we use the essays, footnotes and poetry in A Women’s Commentary to examine the Torah from a female perspective.

This is an interactive group and men, as well as women, are welcome. If you are interested in exploring Torah in an exciting new way, please join us!
