Shabbat

Shabbat is an important spiritual time to reflect on the week that has passed and to refresh ourselves for the week to come.

Our services are always free and open to the public.

FRIDAY NIGHT

Help us welcome Shabbat with lively music and joyful singing each Friday night throughout the year (check the calendar for service times—see below). Services are followed by an Oneg Shabbat, with light refreshments, to help us welcome Shabbat with joy.

We use Mishkan T’filah, the newest prayer book of the Reform movement. Rabbi Geffen leads us through services that balance tradition with creativity.

As our way of serving a diverse Jewish population, services are informal and warm; we strive to make all participants, Jewish and not, feel welcome and comfortable. For those of you who are not completely comfortable reading Hebrew, but still want to join in singing, there are transliterations throughout the book. We encourage participation in the service, in whatever form feels comfortable to you.

Children are welcome at every service, and a playroom is available downstairs.

SATURDAY MORNING

Help us celebrate Shabbat every Saturday morning throughout the year at 10:00 AM. Our service finishes around noon and is followed by a full Kiddush lunch and then Torah study, led by Rabbi Geffen.

Once a month, our Torah Study uses Torah: A Women’s Commentary and is led by lay leaders.

SHABBAT BY THE BAY

ShabbatbytheBay.jpg

Shabbat by the Bay is an all-ages summer Shabbat celebration at beautiful Havens Beach in Sag Harbor. We start with a weekly Mitzvah Project at 5:00 PM. Rabbi Dan and Cantor Kevin start the service at 5:30 PM and it ends around 6:00 PM. There are beach toys for the youngest children, tambourines, egg-shaped shakers, and lap drums to play while we sing. Enjoy our ancient melodies through song, dance, and a drumming circle! As we look out on the beautiful bay, we prepare to welcome Shabbat. Everyone is invited to bring a picnic dinner.

For every Shabbat by the Bay, we try to incorporate tikkun olam (healing the world) through a community project such as collecting cans and bottles for recycling, school supply donations, and writing/decorating cards for sick children. Look for information about this in our weekly email blast.
